Episode 17

I want to explain what I mean when I use the term “Outlaw.” Understand… The Bible is clear that the purpose of the law was purely diagnostic. The perfect law of God was given to reveal how far short of God’s glory you’ve really fallen.

In a sense the law towered over you declaring unquestionably that you could ever be good enough (you’ve fallen short) and as a consequence you’re deserving of death and judgment as a result (the wages of sin is death).

Because the law set a standard you could ever measure up to, the law was by its very nature condemning! Since the law demands a debt you could ever satisfy to be justified, the law declares you to be unrighteous sentencing you to hell.

And yet, through Jesus death on the cross, He satisfied for you the debt demanded by the law… Meaning, if you’re found “in Christ” - if He freed you from a debt you could not pay by His grace, you are now free from both the laws requirements and its condemnation. You see the law itself now gloriously declares that you’re righteous before God.

This is why Paul boldly declared in Romans 8 verse 1 that “there is no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.” You see “in Christ” we are all “Outlaws” or literally we’re out from under the law - because the law has already fulfilled it’s role in our lives.

Through God’s grace (His unmerited favor given through Jesus) you and I have been made righteous before Him. He now sees each of us “just-as-if-I’d” never sinned. Friend, every Christian is an Outlaws because God’s grace really changed everything!
