Episode 18

Why does grace change everything? Isn’t it true love is a much more powerful motivator of human behavior than the law? I find it funny that you can always tell when a young man has a love-interest… Every “life-change” his parents have been stressing for years almost over night remedies itself! He showers, brushes his teeth, puts on clean clothes for one reason… He’s in love.

Beyond this… Isn’t it also true demands seem to yield relational resistance whereas unmerited kindness often produces relational reciprocation? For example… If you and your spouse are having intimacy issues - go home, make demands, and see how well that works out for you! You see only love demonstrated through kindness has the power to soften a hardened heart.

Friend, this is what grace accomplishes in your heart. Grace is powerful because it addresses your motivation. It frees you to obey God, not because you have to but because you want to! Whereas the law demanded you work hard to live the right way, God’s grace enables you to live the right way as a reciprocation of Jesus’ love for you.

This is why the accusation that grace is dangerous because it provides a license for sin is not only baseless but reveals a misunderstanding as to the nature of Grace itself. Jesus didn’t die on the cross so that you could remain in rebellion. He died on the cross, demonstrating His grace so that you could enjoy communion with Him.

Forced change through laws was replaced with a natural transformation yielded in a love-relationship with Jesus! Because grace changes everything the truth is that you can never take grace far enough.
